Comments from our guests;

“We stayed in the Malonat apartment in July 2007 for 5 magical nights. Fantastic! Thanks to our hosts who were very helpful and welcoming. It was greatly appreciated, our trip was so much more enjoyable. The apartment was gorgeous and well worth the climb! The location was perfect, everything at our doorstep, including the market which had the most delicious food! I'll never forget the taste of those olives! In the afternoon, we enjoyed strolling through the little streets of the Old Town and discovering interesting shops, churches, restaurants and the evening market. Everyone comments on the jewelery I bought in Nice at that market. The other bonus is that the beach is only a few minutes walk away from the apartment.

Cheers and thanks for a great place to stay.”

Centrally located in the heart of old Nice, these five self-catering apartmentsOperaPrefectureMalonatSaleya, and  St François, have everything good Nice has to offer on their doorsteps.

Whether it is shopping you enjoy, sightseeing, wining and dining, or just relaxing on the beach, you will remember your stay in our self-catering apartments for the quality of the accommodation and its proximity to everything you might want to see or do in Nice. Although, given the abundance of restaurants and cafés available, you probably won’t want to do much self-catering!

Opera, is a one bedroom apartment, with spacious living room and large bedroom. St François, is a studio apartment with separate kitchen, that offers clean, comfortable accommodation at budget prices. Both apartments are in the same building and have the added bonus of having a secure lock up on the ground floor for bikes/pushchairs etc. The building itself is just 90 meters from the beach, and has the Nice Opera house (built in 1885 after the original burnt down) and the Eglise Saint François as neighbours. At your doorstep is ‘Le Grand Balcon’, a favorite restaurant among Nice’s political elite, where the food and service are garanteed to impress your guests

Prefecture, is a one bedroom, loft style apartment. Refurbished in  early 2008, it offers all the comforts we have come to expect from holiday accommodation, including WiFi broadband, and washing machine.

Malonat and Saleya are both two bedroom apartments that can be booked separately or together to provide self-catering accommodation for up to eight people in comfort. They are some 200 meters from the beach, located just round the  corner from Cours Saleya, known for it’s flower market and cafés. The building itself is a listed building, dating back to the 1700’s, with stone heads carved into the stonework inside the stairwell. The view from their living rooms looks out to the waterfall of Nice’s Chateaux ruins to the left, over the rooftops of Vieux Nice to the right , and to the sea and cap d’Antibes in front. You are also lucky enough to have Boulangerie Espuno, widely regarded as one of France’s best bakeries, just around the corner on Rue Droite.

For all four holiday apartments, parking facilities can be arranged separately (prices vary according to length of stay). Children are welcome, pets are not, and all apartments are non smoking.

WORTH KNOWING;

Airport transfer; either use the Nice express bus, Departures Terminal 2 - platform 5 & Terminal 1 - platform 1  which costs 4 euro one way and leaves from the airport every half hour and drops you off at the end of Rue St François de Paule for all our apartments, or take a taxi which should cost between 20 and 30 euro depending on traffic, one way.

Bed linen is provided, should you require a cot and high chair please let us know in advance. For bookings of more than ten days a change of linen is provided. Towels can be ordered separately (10 euro per person)

We expect the apartment to be as clean as you found it, cleaning equipment is at your disposal, beds should be left stripped and laundry in the laundry bag, bins empty , and dishes washed and put away. Should you prefer us to organize a cleaner to do this for you when you leave, please let us know in advance.

GETTING AROUND;

Buses- The ‘TAM’ buses are operated by the Conseil General des Alpes Maritimes (the council to you and I) and now charge a flat 1€ per person, per trip. ie Every time you get on the bus, you pay 1€ regardless of how far you are going. The busses are clean, usually on time, and air conditioned, see Bus Times

Trains- The ‘TER’ trains are the ones that serve the coastal towns, they are regular and clean (usually). A ticket Nice to Monaco return will set you back 5 euro, but if you fancy spending the day exploring several towns then you are best to go for the ‘Carte Isabelle’ which allows you on and off the train from Fréjus to Vintimiglia as many times as you like in one day, and costs 12 euro, unfortunately it is only available in the summer month July to September.

If train journeys is what you enjoy then you might want to consider the ‘Chemin de Fer de Provence’ which offers a very scenic train journey through the lower Alpes from Nice to Dignes, clinging to the hill sides as it meanders its way across valleys and on up into the hills.

Tram- The tram is popular, and is therefore usually crowded, Tickets can be bought at the stops, from the booths on the platforms Pricing is as follows;

1 trip ticket =1 euro

10 trip ticket = 10 euro

1 day pass = 4 euro

7 day pass = 15 euro

see Tram Info for more information

Cyclotour- You will see, dotted around Nice, strange tricycles with a covered back seat. If you are worn out from to much walking and/or shopping, use them. They are usually driven by students who will take you wherever you want for 1€/km, even on a tour of Nice.

Parking- For those of you who come by car, parking Saleya (under cours Saleya) do passes for the duration of your stay . As a guide they charge 49€ for a three day pass and 8€ a day thereafter, which allows you in and out as often as you like. It is worth remembering that if it is your birthday they will offer you your birthday parking for free, and they have bicycles that  they will lend free to car park users. You can get information  on all this on site in the office next to the exit barrier.

Taxi- Taxis can be booked by calling +33 (0)493137878

RESTAURANTS;

DELHI BELHI    0493925185,    22 Rue Barilleri, Indian cuisine, in what used to be a stable. Great food, good ambiance, and service in english

PASTA BASTA     0493800357,   18 Rue de la Prefecture,Italian cuisine, fresh pasta, real pizza, the food is proper italian. The prices are reasonable, service is quick, unfortunately the place lacks class.

LA VOGLIA    0493809916,        2 Rue Saint François de Paule. Great food, generous servings, always busy. Make sure you book if you are  a group. Stylish, modern interior and excellent service make it a popular place for both lunches and evening meals

LE  SAFARI         0493801844,   1 Cours Saleya, my favorite of the restaurants on the Cours. Sitting out on their terrasse on a market day, listening to the buskers as they come by, washing down their ‘plat du jour’ with a bottle of rose under the midday sun, my idea of bliss!

AU PAIN QUOTIDIEN  Rue Saint François de Paule, for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Slightly on the pricey side, but the food is good and the long wooden tables add to the unique ambience.

LE GRAND BALCON     0493626074,  10 Rue Saint François de Paule, If you want to impress and have  money to do it with, then this place is for you. This is a favorite among Nice’s  political elite.

LA MERENDA, 4 Raoul Bosio. If you want to taste real French cuisine, this place is for you. It is tiny, always packed, and serves excellent traditional Niçois dishes. You may even struggle to find it, it is so small, it is next to the Foncia estate agents. They don’t have a phone so no phone reservations and no credit cards, just pop your head in to make a reservation.

Going out;

DE KLOMP    0493924285,    8 Rue Mascoinat. This pub has a great selection of beers, and usually has live bands playing

LA BODEGUITA    0493926724,    14 Rue Chauvin. Cuban salza. I am not one for dancing, but I really enjoyed myself. The building itself is reminicent of an old workshop, the live band gets everyone moving. One thing though, it is very popular and if the bouncer doesn’t like the clothes you’re in, then you won’t get in.

LE RIALTO    0493880841,  4 Rue Rivoli. Cinema, located behind the Negresco Hotel, this cinema shows films in ‘version original’.

Cours Saleya has food and flower market every morning except Monday when it is a antique market.

The ‘Parc du Chateau’ offers shady gardens with fantastic views of Nice. If you need to get out of the hustle and bustle, this is a great refuge. At the end of Quai des Etas Unis, just round the corner from Cours Saleya, either take the stairs, or the lift to the top.

Eze Village, bus n°112 & 82 from stance 20 at the bus station, is a medieval village perched on the hilltop over Beaulieu, offers spectacular views, and impressive cactus garden, and  an easy day or half day trip from Nice

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
